Two months ago, the Montrose County Commissioners extended a pause on solar projects yet again. This moratorium has now been going on for over two years — the longest throughout all of Colorado. But now we have a chance to finally move forward.
A new land use code that supports responsible, well-regulated solar energy will be presented on¬†Wednesday, August 6, at 9:30 am¬†at the¬†Montrose County Public Works Building (63160 LaSalle Rd)—and we need you there to speak up.
The code includes strong protections for land, wildlife, and our communities, like:
- Using land that has already been disturbed when possible
- Encouraging solar that works with farming (agrivoltaics)
                                                                    - Plans to protect wildlife and clean up sites after use
- Make sure companies follow through on project completion and clean up
                                                        - Careful review for large projects
At this meeting, commissioners can approve the code, ask for changes, or delay it again. It’s time to move forward with clean, local, affordable energy — and your voice matters.
