We invite you to the Student Voices SD51 School Board Candidate Forum!

Our students at West Slope Youth Voice have been actively participating in their local government to make their voices heard for years now, and as part of that tradition, the students will be hosting a Student Voices SD51 School Board Candidate Forum on Wednesday, October 18, from 5:30-7 pm at the Dual Immersion Academy in Riverside to highlight the key issues that are most important to young people to educate voters as they make up their minds for who will fill two seats on the school board this year in School District 51.

All questions will be generated and asked by the students, utilizing the results of their annual Student Survey, to convey the issues students view as the most pressing concerns facing them each day in our community and in School District 51. We encourage all students, voters, and interested community members to attend to support our youth, learn about the concerns of students, and educate themselves about each candidate before voting concludes on November 7, 2023.

School board members make decisions each day that impact students’ lived experiences, however, student voices are often left out of the decision-making process. Our goal is to elevate student voices and ensure their concerns are heard so that those in elected positions are both aware and considerate of the needs of our young people and future leaders. Please join us for this special and unique opportunity!
