Come celebrate CO Public Lands Day by hiking with us!

Join us for an unforgettable hike on Colorado Public Lands Day, May 15!

We know many residents in Western Colorado chose this place as home because of our diverse and breathtaking landscape. In celebration, Western Colorado Alliance members will be hiking the beautiful Dominguez Canyon to celebrate the 5th annual Colorado Public Lands Day. The hike includes canyon walls, waterfalls, and pictographs.

Below are details for the hike and we hope you can join us!

Time:

We’ll meet at the trailhead on May 15 at 10 am. If you are interested in carpooling, we will be meeting at the east end of the parking lot at the Orchard Mesa City Market, 2770 US-50, Grand Junction, CO 81503, at 9:05 am, leaving by 9:15am.  Because parking can be difficult, we will be meeting at the corner of Bridgeport and Highway 50 at 9:45 am and leaving by 9:50 am.

Directions:

The trailhead for Big Dominguez Canyon is located about 20 miles south of Grand Junction off of Hwy 50, north of Delta.  From Grand Junction follow the highway south and turn right (west) onto Bridgeport Road.  The turnoff may be hard to see, so look for the BLM sign.  Follow Bridgeport Road (a good but narrow dirt road) down about 3 miles to the Gunnison River and the trailhead.

Bathrooms:

Available at the trailhead.

Expected Weather:

High of 84, low of 55. Partly Cloudy.

Recommended Equipment:

Hiking shoes, water, sun screen, lunch, snacks.

Hike Difficulty:

Easy Distance: 3 to 9 miles round trip (depending on how long you’d like to hike). I will be with the group that would like to go halfway and Lisa Eckert will take the group that would like to make the whole trip.

Time Length:

4-7 hours  RSVP Date: Wednesday, May 12
