October sees our new Care Over Cuts campaign intensify with not one, not two, but FIVE events planned in three Western Colorado counties!
Tuesday, October 14
The action begins on October 14. At 5 pm on that Tuesday, the Uncompahgre Valley Alliance leadership team will be hosting a ballot education event at the Hispanic Affairs Project Community Room (504 N. 1st Street in Montrose). Enjoy a light meal of nourishing soup and salad and learn about questions on your ballot this year. You can sign up for this event here. Contact Montrose County community organizer Bianca Diaz for more information.
Also on October 14, Western Colorado Alliance of Garfield County members will present the results of their recent Community Transportation Needs Assessment Report to the leaders of Silt. The Silt Board of Trustees will be meeting at Silt Town Hall (231 N. 7th Street in Silt). We want to pack the house in a strong show of support for funding local transportation services! The meeting starts at 7 pm. If you have any questions or for more details, reach out to Garfield County community organizer Hanna Arauza.
Wednesday, October 15
Garfield County Alliance members will stay active two nights in a row! On October 15, at 7 pm, they will be at the Rifle City Council Meeting held at Rifle City Hall (202 Railroad Ave. in Rifle) to again present the results of their Community Transportation Needs Assessment Report. We need people willing to show up for public transportation in Garfield County! Please contact Hanna for more information.
Saturday, October 18
On October 18, Western Colorado Alliance of Mesa County will host a YIMBY! event in Clifton, at Rocky Mountain Elementary Park (474 32 ½ Rd, Clifton). YIMBY! stands for “Yes! In My Back Yard!” The event is about more than saying yes to needed housing — it’s about creating space for housing that is sustainable and safe for our community, equitable to Mesa County’s needs, and affordable for all residents. The event starts at 2 pm. Food and housing resources will be provided. Sign up to attend today! For more information, email Mesa County community organizer María Luiza Peréz Chavéz. Take action by asking our commissioners to put Mesa County on the path toward meeting its housing needs!
Saturday, October 25
One week later, on October 25, members of Uncompahgre Valley Alliance will meet at the Lion’s Clubhouse (602 N. Nevada Ave. in Montrose) to get ready to hit the streets as we get out the vote! We will start in a quick training to go over safety, your script, and how to distribute materials; then you will go out in pairs. Those who sign up are invited to a celebratory gathering afterwards to revel in all the good work the team has accomplished. For more information, contact Bianca Diaz. Sign up today!
These actions are just the start! More actions are already being planned in all three counties for November. Our Alliance is meeting this unprecedented moment in history by rolling up our sleeves and getting to work. We know you’ll join us where you can!
