Have you heard? The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has issued a new Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) in which they propose closing nearly a million acres under the jurisdiction of its Grand Junction Field Office to future oil and gas leasing, and 568,300 acres managed by the Colorado River Valley Field Office based in Silt.
While just a draft at this point, it’s very encouraging to see the BLM considering substantial new oil and gas closures, as well as protecting our Western Colorado wildlands and water. This plan offers real hope that the BLM will protect our public lands — but they need to hear from you.
Toward that end, the BLM has scheduled three meetings (two in-person and one on Zoom) to discuss the plan. We want to ensure our Alliance members are in those meetings! Here are the details:
Glenwood Springs Community Center
100 Wulfson Rd.
Glenwood Springs, CO 81601
Online (via Zoom)
Register for the Zoom meeting here!
Courtyard by Marriott
765 Horizon Drive
Grand Junction, CO 81506
If you are interested in attending one of these meetings, or getting involved further in the efforts to protect our public lands from reckless industry development, please sign up here! These meetings represent a great way to learn more about the plan and to show the BLM that you support a more balanced approach to land management in Western Colorado. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at laura@westerncoloradoalliance.org.
