It’s an odd feeling to be a few days into February and not in action at the Capitol. But that doesn’t doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy! Hopefully, it should come as no surprise that Western Colorado Alliance will not be hosting our annual People’s Lobby Trip at the Capitol this year. Instead, we’re bringing the Legislature to you!

This year, our Alliance is hosting We are the Change: Your guide to engaging with the Colorado State Legislature through Western Colorado Alliance. This bi-weekly webinar series will highlight current bills moving through the legislature, dig into the bills Western Colorado Alliance is prioritizing, and send you away with actions you can make to be the change and help ensure good bills that support the communities living in Western Colorado get passed.

This webinar series is for everyone! And you don’t need to be a legislative expert or a policy wonk to participate. We’ll give you the tips, tricks, and tools so you can take it from there and watch your actions make a difference. This 45-minute webinar will take place every other Thursday beginning on February 18 at 5:15 pm, and will be ongoing through the length of Colorado’s legislative session. You can tune in from your couch, while you’re making dinner, or whatever suits your needs. It won’t take much time — but it will make a big difference.

Before we kick off our Legislative Webinar series, we want to give you a look-ahead at the type of bills we might cover, so we’re adding an extra webinar next week with an introduction to our Alliance — the issues we work on, and why the legislature is so important. If you’re pretty new to Western Colorado Alliance, would like a chance to get caught up, or you’d like to invite some friends to participate, this will be a great way to check it out. The more folks we have, the louder our voice will be from Western Colorado!

So mark these dates on your calendar, invite your friends, and let’s get started:

Jeriel joined the Western Colorado Alliance staff in February 2017 (back when we were still Western Colorado Congress), but you may remember her as our Canvass Director for the successful Minimum Wage ballot initiative in 2016! In her young career, Jeriel has worked with engaged citizens across Colorado on issues ranging from veterans' affairs, healthcare and women’s rights. Jeriel has called Grand Junction and the Western Slope home for 16 years, and enjoys running, hiking, biking and crafting with her daughter Emma.
