After years of traveling to Denver to speak before the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission about drilling in western Colorado, the ball is finally in our court as the COGCC will be holding their monthly meeting in Glenwood Springs next Tuesday, July 19.
This could not have happened at a more important time as the final decision for Ursa Resources’ proposal to drill 53 natural gas wells in Battlement Mesa is looming.
This is our moment as western slope residents to bring our story directly to the COGCC and ask them to protect the health, quality of life and well being of the Battlement Mesa community. We must make our position loud and clear: drilling does not belong in neighborhoods and Ursa has not proven the need to locate their pads in our community.

Place: Glenwood Community Center, Sopris Rooms A & B, 100 Wulfsohn Rd, Glenwood Springs
When: Tuesday, July 19 from 9:00am – 2:00 pm. Public comment starts at 9:00 a.m., BCC press conference at the end of the public comment period.
The final COGCC agenda has not been released; however we anticipate public comment to start at 9:00 am. People should show up before hand to sign up to speak as it will be a first come-first serve situation.
We will then hold a press conference after the public comment period and ask that folks stay to provide a strong show of support! BCC and GVCA have reserved the “Sopris Room C” as a space for participating residents to prepare their testimony from 8:00 am throughout the day. Snacks and refreshments will be provided in the morning, and a light lunch will be served after the media event.
