Ballots go out today!

Ballots have gone out for the Grand Valley Power (GVP) Board of Directors elections! Grand Valley Power members can vote by mail starting today (July 8), and must make sure their ballots are received by August 8! Members can also vote in person at the GVP Annual Meeting on August 8 at the CMU Campus’ Myer Ballroom.

Typically fewer than 10% of all GVP members participate in these important elections that determine things like how much you pay for energy, where your energy comes from, and who represents you and your family’s interests in GVP’s governing body — among SO much more! When it comes to rural electric cooperatives like Grand Valley Power, you aren’t just a paying customer, you are a member-owner, meaning GVP belongs to everyone within its service territory and these board members should be representing YOU!

This is why it is critical that you make your voice heard by participating in these elections — just a few votes can make all the difference!

Grand Valley Power was the first rural electric cooperative in Colorado, but it has fallen behind other cooperatives in our region, such as Delta Montrose Electric Association and Holy Cross Energy, in its innovation, services, and accountability, and GVP member-owners are paying more for their power than our neighbors. While Western Colorado Alliance is not endorsing candidates this year, we urge all of our members to take a look at the candidates here and vote for new, forward-thinking leaders to represent you on the board of directors.

Our energy future is on the line, and if we are to take advantage of once-in-a-lifetime federal funding opportunities, new technology including battery storage and online voting, as well as our abundant clean and renewable energy resources, we need leaders who will help us get there.

To get a better idea of the biggest issues facing Grand Valley Power member-owners, we are going door-to-door over the next month to learn from our community about their relationship with Grand Valley Power, what things they want to see change, and how they want to see our county meet the state’s clean energy goals while reducing energy costs. Please join our Alliance’s Clean Energy Team to speak with Grand Valley Power members during the following dates! All canvasses will launch from Western Colorado Alliance’s main office located at 601 N. First Street, Grand Junction, CO, 81501.
