Annual Conference 2019

Annual Conference 2019

As we approach the final quarter of 2019, we are now guided by a brand new organizational platform… and some new Board officers as well!

Our 2019 Annual Conference was held at the scenic Wine Country Inn in Palisade this past August 24 and initiated a new era for our Alliance in the form of its first-ever draft platform. Following a vigorous and respectful conversation, the platform was approved by the many members in attendance (and by those who couldn’t be but who voted electronically). Additionally, Andreya Krieves was elected as Board Secretary and Kevin Kuns was elected as Vice President.

As part of our annual tradition, we award one or more Alliance members who have performed outstanding service to our Alliance and/or one of its local affiliate groups with the Worley Award, named after the late Chuck and Betsy Worley. This year, the Worley Award went to Bonnie Smeltzer and Rodger Steen, both of whom have been extremely active in the fight for community protections from reckless oil and gas development. Our other award given at the annual conference each year is the Rising Star Award, presented to honor some of our newer faces who have shown admirable commitment to our Alliance. This year, that award went to Rev. Annie Grogan of Montrose for her work with the Uncompahgre Valley Alliance.

The Conference was a wonderful opportunity to learn and to socialize with our fellow members. I personally had a blast and hope you did too! And if you weren’t able to attend this year, please make plans for next year’s Annual Conference — which will also mark our Alliance’s 40th anniversary!
