Alliance members are headed to the Capitol — Join us!

Colorado’s Legislative Session has had 12 working days so far and already nearly 200 bills have been introduced. This is exciting news as we begin planning our trip to the Capitol in February to meet with Legislators and discuss bills that address the needs of residents living on the West Slope.

We’ve set the date! Western Colorado Alliance members will be at the State Capitol in Denver as part of the 2024 People’s Lobby Trip on Monday, February 25, and we’d love for you to join us.

Here’s How it Works

Our People’s Lobby trip takes three days total: February 25 – 27.

Sunday: We’re on the way! We drive to Denver, get settled at our lodging, and engage in a training to prepare. During our training, we will review the bills we’re planning to discuss with legislators, give an overview of how the day will go, assign bills to members based on their personal interests, and do some role-playing!

Monday: We’re in the building! We’ll spend all of Monday at the Capitol. In the morning, we’ll work with legislators to invite members onto the House and Senate floor to watch the process in action. Next, we’ll have a scheduled meeting with West Slope legislators and get face-to-face time to discuss our priorities and theirs. Then, we’ll have a chance to sit in committee meetings, and potentially testify on a bill or two.

Tuesday: We head home! Tuesday is a low-key day. We will wake up, eat breakfast, and hit the road, basking in the conversations we had, the stories we shared, and the movement we made. Our goal is to make this annual event accessible to anyone, no matter what your experience level is. So even if you’ve never done something like this before, you’ll fit right in.

The costs we cover: Western Colorado Alliance will take care of travel expenses (we carpool), lodging, and breakfast and dinner.

What you cover: As long as you are a member of Western Colorado Alliance (click here to become a member for only $35), all we ask you to cover are your lunch meals.

Click here to sign up to attend the People’s Lobby Trip! Our Legislative Committee is already hard at work to hone in on the bills we’ll want to discuss with legislators, but the topics will surely cover climate and energy, affordable housing, local food and agriculture, healthcare, public transportation needs, and more! In the meantime, if you are interested in attending the People’s Lobby Trip and have questions, please reach out to me and I would be happy to connect.
