Mountainfilm On Tour – Grand Junction 2023 was a rousing success! On November 16, about 300 people showed up at the Avalon Theatre in downtown Grand Junction to enjoy the excitement and inspiration of the touring film festival from Telluride which has been an annual highlight for our Alliance for decades now.
In addition to the films shown this year, our Alliance once again hosted its annual Silent Auction, which returned to its traditional form this year, and generated some vigorous bids!
This year, films shown included: “To Be Frank,” a profile of 73-year-old surfing legend Frank Paine; “Rosalie Fish,” the story of the Indigenous runner whose background as a Native woman and advocate drives her passion for running; “High Road,” a look at the unbreakable bond between Paralympian Meg Fisher and Jack Berry, a young Para athlete whose cycling career is just beginning to unfold; and “Apayauq,” about dog musher Apayauq Reitan’s journey to become the first out, transgender woman to complete the legendary Iditarod sled dog race across Alaska. These and several other great films elicited laughter, applause, and occasionally, tears in the Avalon auditorium.
This year also saw great support from our sponsors and donors, making this Mountainfilm an unqualified success for our Alliance. If you were able to make it — thank you for your support, and we hope you had as much of a blast as we did! We’ll see you again at Mountainfilm On Tour – Grand Junction in 2024!
