Our poll monitors will be the vanguard to protect democracy and ensure voters have all the (nonpartisan!) info to vote this year. Poll monitors will be able to sign up for shifts near polling locations and protect\, observe\, and report about the status of polling centers and ensure there is no interference with people expressing themselves through their vote.

SUMMARY:Election Integrity with the Brennan Center for Justice
DESCRIPTION:Last week\, 100 Homeland Security and FBI agents raided the offices of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC)\, which runs one of the most effective voter registration programs in the nation. The organization’s offices were searched\, computers were confiscated\, and organizers\, leaders\, and volunteers with the OOC were questioned and intimidated by federal agents.  \nWhile Ohio is thousands of miles away from Western Colorado\, this action is a threat to elections across the country and a direct attempt to undermine the democratic process. This is not new in Western Colorado\, where former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters orchestrated a breach of Mesa County’s election security systems in the spring of 2021 on debunked conspiracy theories and disinformation related to the 2020 presidential election. Voters and elected officials from both sides of the aisle were swift to condemn Peters\, and in 2024\, she was found guilty by a jury on seven criminal counts and sentenced to nine years in federal prison. \nHere in Western Colorado and across this country\, voters chose their leaders\, not the other way around.  \nTo respond to this moment\, our Alliance and our parent network\, the Western Organization of Resource Councils\, is hosting an online session with the Brennan Center for Justice on July 1 at 3 pm to learn what we can do to ensure free and fair elections in Western Colorado.  \nTogether\, we have the power to protect our elections and ensure that every single voter is able to exercise their rights and participate in our democracy. There will also be free electronic waste collection from 10 am to 3 pm. The City of Montrose\, as well as The Montrose Recreation District\, are supporting the Uncompahgre Valley Alliance\, who will be hosting this event for its second year in celebration of Earth Week. \nIt all takes place on April 23\, between 4 and 7 pm at Flex Park at Colorado Outdoors! \nThere will be several exhibits from non-profits that also promote stewardship of the river and land\, engaging and educational activities\, a kids’ corner\, live music and entertainment\, free food and refreshments\, and lots of giveaways to start up your garden and celebrate spring! \nFamilies and community members will be encouraged to ride their bicycles to the event\, as there will be a bike check station sponsored by the Bike Tech Program of Vista Charter School and the non-profit Project Bike Tech. \nWe’ll have more details and information on exhibitors available soon!
