Wilderness Bill Open House in Telluride

Wilderness Bill Open House in Telluride

Whitehouse Basin in San Juan Mtns

Congressman Scott Tipton’s [R-CO] staff will be in Telluride Friday, February 10th to take comments on the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act.  Drop by between 7 & 9 pm to express your support!  The open house will be in the San Miguel County Commissioner Meeting Room at 333 W. Colorado Ave. [2nd floor].

Ridgway Ouray Community Council (ROCC) worked with other stakeholders for years to carefully craft a proposal that avoids conflicts with existing users of these lands. The San Juan Wilderness Act is supported by San Miguel, Ouray and San Juan Counties and a large pro-wilderness constituency of ranchers, hunters, anglers, recreation interests, and private landowners across Congressional District 3.  With a regional economy dependent on tourism and outdoor recreation, this will support a strong area economy through job creation and visitor services.

The proposal has been hailed by many as a truly grassroots broadly supported land conservation act. A wide range of stakeholders negotiated to ensure that current uses will continue.  Multi-use trails, important wildlife habitat and quiet recreational opportunities are protected in the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act already introduced in the Senate.

Thank you US Senators Mark Udall [D-CO] and Michael Bennet [D-CO]!

Join us in asking Congressman Tipton to introduce a house version.  Now is the time to set aside partisan and ideological opposition and instead, truly represent his district.

If you cannot come to Telluride in person, please call or email Congressman Tipton to voice your support.
